Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG)
Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) is an umbrella term that refers to specific data designed to be used by investors for evaluating the material risk that the organization is taking on based on the externalities it is generating. The data produced can also be used within an organization as metrics for strategic and managerial purposes.

What is BRSR?
The new reporting format named, Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report (BRSR), aims to establish links between the financial results of a business with its ESG performance. This can make it easier for regulators and investors, and allied stakeholders to obtain a fair estimate of overall business stability, growth and sustainability (hitherto based on financial disclosures alone). SEBI has mandated that the BRSR will be applicable to the top 1,000 listed entities (by market capitalisation) for reporting on a voluntary basis for FY2021–22 and on a mandatory basis from FY2022–23.

Why this Certificate Course?

The entire humanity is going through a transition with a 1.2°C higher temperature compared to the pre-industrial level, higher than the Planet can tolerate. As a result, about 35% of our precious biodiversity in terms of flora, fauna and avifauna are already extinct; agricultural productivity has drastically gone down with a threat to food security of the Planet; Water quality & quantity have hugely deteriorated; Sea level rise has gone up to an alarming level, frequent Disasters are widespread in our day to day life now, Many of the cold ocean currents are converted to warm ones, Air pressure belts have shifted considerably, None of the ecosystems of the Planet is supplementing to each other.

COP 27 to UNFCCC, is happening now in Egypt; where 196 Member Nations of United Nations, are participating. In COP 26 at Glasgow, 190 Nationals had their Climate Pledges to limit the temperature rise to 1.5°C; but failed miserably to meet their Commitments. We are now at a Crossroads; where time demands immediate solutions, through aggressive Climate Actions.
Environment, Water, Air, Trees, all the elements of Nature silently tolerate all the torture that we humans impose on them. Water doesn’t shout, “Don’t abuse me”, Air never raise Alarm, if someone silently pollute it and a Tree never calls anyone, “Don’t cut me!” and often gives the Shelter and soft Shadow to a Person, even who even axes it. In such a situation, Policing of Nature is really Complex and most difficult Operation and Probably next to impossible. Since the human interest, is always to benefit, Carbon Trading, has been designed to solve these challenges, where the Polluter pays; who reduces the emission is paid for. In such a context, Carbon & Natural Resource Foot-printing, GHG Inventorisation & Assessment, leading to Carbon Management, has become inevitable. Carbon Management occupies 80- 85% of sustainability space. Since the Planet's existence is at stake and all of us, global citizens- beyond country boundaries, have our survival challenges as the most posing challenge of the time.

Considering the urgent Demand of the Market, Individuals, Government Policies, Industrial Leaders; IISD-CMI have planned 2 Days of Intense Certificate Courses to bring all the relevant Professionals, under the umbrella of a single platform, to equip the learners, with adequate skills to achieve a higher level of Professional Proficiency in their desired area of specialization.

Come, Joinand explore this Opportunity for the Enhancement your Professional Strengths & Capabilities, which will Centre-stage you, as the front runners in the race of Carbon Management Experts and Sustainability Leaders.

What is a Carbon footprint?
A carbon footprint is the total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions caused by an individual, event, organisation, service, place or product, expressed as Carbon Dioxide equivalent (CO2e). Greenhouse gases, including the carbon-containing gases Carbon dioxide and Methane, can be emitted through the burning of Fossil Fuels, land clearance and the production and consumption of food, manufactured goods, materials, wood, roads, buildings, transportation and other services. Globally, the average carbon footprint is closer to 4 tons.

To have the best chance of avoiding a 2℃ rise in global temperatures, the average global carbon footprint per year must drop to under 2 tons by 2050. By making small changes to our actions, like eating less meat, taking fewer connecting flights and line-drying our clothes, we can start making a big difference.

What is Carbon accounting?
Carbon accounting or Greenhouse Gas accounting refers to processes used to measure how much carbon dioxide equivalents an organization emits. It is used by states, corporations, and individuals to create the carbon credit commodity traded on carbon markets.

What is Carbon Trading?
Carbon trading, also known as carbon emissions trading, isa marketplace to buy and sell credits that allow companies or other parties to emit a certain amount of carbon dioxide equivalent or Greenhouse Gases.

What is I-REC?
A REC (Renewable Energy Certificate) is a type of Energy Attribute Certificate (EAC) that represents the environmental attributes of the generation of a one-megawatt hour (MWh) of energy produced by renewable sources.

Using EACs, end-users around the world can make reliable claims about their energy usage, such as: “my factory runs on 100% renewable energy”, “our products are made with 100% wind energy”, and “our global electricity usage causes zero end-of-pipe emissions.” Without EACs, it would be impossible to make these reliable claims because electricity is not a tangible product that can be boxed and sent from the producer to the consumer. Instead, a producer injects an electrical charge into the grid in one place, and a consumer takes the same amount of control off the grid.

These booked, unique units can be traded independently from the underlying electricity, and only the person or entity that ‘cancels’ this particular unit can claim the usage of that specific MWh. This mechanism is called a book-and-claim system and is the cornerstone of EACs worldwide. It is an accounting instrument that certifies the production of an MWh of electricity along with factual characteristics of how, where, and when the electricity was produced. These units can then be transparently traded and cancelled.
